The California State Legislature had experienced a fast-paced June with the house of origin deadline passing on Friday, June 6th, when all legislation must be acted on in the first house before advancing to the next chamber. Budget negotiations are also ongoing, though the Constitutional deadline was June 15th. The Legislature’s Budget Bill, SB 101 (Wiener), successfully passed the Legislature on June 13th, ahead of the deadline and is pending Governor Newsom’s signature as negotiations continue. A number of budget bill juniors and trailer bills were introduced on Tuesday, June 24th representing the Governor and Legislature’s “compromise” budget, which they began acting upon this past Friday, June 27th.
